The CGPJ renews Francisco Marín Castán as president of the First Chamber of the Tribunal Supremo

  • He is facing a second term in office, for which he was elected for the first time in January 2014

El Consejo General of the Judicial Power, in its plenary session on Thursday, February 28, has re-elected Judge Francisco Marín Castán as president of the First Chamber (Civil) of the Tribunal Supremo.

Francisco Marín, the only candidate, has obtained the unanimous endorsement of the 21 members of the Plenary of the CGPJ.

Born in 1952, he entered the judicial career in 1977 and had his first assignments in the Courts of First Instance and Instruction of La Roda (Albacete) and San Roque (Cádiz), before promoting to the category of magistrate and occupying the Juzgado de Instrucción nº 3 of San Sebastián.

From 1982 to 1991 he was a magistrate in the Audiencia Provincial of Huelva and later in the Hearing of Madrid.

He held a position as a lawyer in the Technical Office of the Tribunal Supremo until January 2000, the year in which he was appointed magistrate of the First Chamber (Civil) of the High Court. On January 31, 2014, he was appointed president of the aforementioned Chamber by Agreement of the Plenary of the CGPJ.

Acacorresponding demic of the Royal Academia of Jurisprudence and Legislation since 2008, is the author of several books - such as 'Actionable and non-actionable resolutions in civil cassation' or 'Anonymous and limited liability companies' - and has participated in the collective works 'Comments on the Civil Code' and 'Civil Code with jurisprudence, concordances and legal references'.

He has also participated as a speaker in different courses, seminars and conferences and was a professor of Procedural Law and Civil Law for nine years at the associated center of the National Distance Education University in Huelva.
