December 14 and 15 was the annual appointment of the Lawyers with Human Rights, dedicated this year to the right to peace and security. During two days, the different implications and perspectives of the war in Ukraine were analysed, among other topics, at the IX Human Rights Congress. And at the end of this, the Human Rights Awards ceremony took place at the Reina Sofía Museum. In this issue of the Magazine we tell you everything and interview the winners.

The Lawyers reward work in favor of peace and security
The Afghan politician Fawzia Koofi, the Torrejón de Ardoz air base, the journalist Mikel Ayestaran and the lawyer Paco Solans were the winners at the XXIV edition of the Human Rights Awards, in which the conflicts in Ukraine and Afghanistan were very present.

Fawzia Koofi: "The world has left us alone"
She is one of Afghanistan's most prominent politicians and was the winner of the award in the people category. She was the vice-president of the Afghan National Assembly and in 2014 she tried to run for the country's presidency. But above all she is a tireless activist for the rights of Afghan women and girls. In exile since August 2021, she maintains an intense international activity, which takes her all over the world, to find solutions to the humanitarian and political crisis in her country.
Mikel Ayestaran: "Interest in the war in Ukraine remains because it affects us."
Freelance multimedia journalist, specialized in the Middle East. Since 2005 he travels the world in search of the news. Seasoned in many conflicts, he is also the author of several books in which he analyzes its consequences on the civilian population.
