WHO at its crossroads
WHO is, by its nature, essential. If it did not exist, it would have to be created. The case of COVID-19 confirms that, although health is not everything, without health everything else can become nothing. And the WHO has a fundamental role in the prevention and control of health problems that affect everyone. But… is this the WHO that is needed or does it have to be reinvented? Here we review the role of WHO in developing and developed countries, its structure, how it is financed, and how this financing mechanism affects its independence.
